- Patricia - my roommate in recovery whose little girl is also in the NICU. She named her baby Mahalia, after meeting our girl. Baby Lauren, Baby David, Baby Aiden, Baby Jacquelyn and their brave parents and siblings

My very first true love in the jazz world was saxophonist Paul Desmond, who at the time was in the Dave Brubeck quartet. So I can say I heartily approve of the name Desmond. And Alfredo is his Ohio grandpa, no? How wonderful. (And of course I would have heartily approved of any name - including Whoonit!)
Dear Kali, Shane and Maymay,
I read your blog and am so very happy that things are going well. The nic unite is unimaginally scary-I well remember Emi and all the tubes, tape etc and feeling that no one so small should need all those things to stay alive. But as each tube was removed the elation was something undiscribable. Hopefully each day will be one less tube!!! He is a beautiful child and your father is just beaming about his "namesake". Kali your strength is an inspiration to all.
